This Two Tone Raised Claddagh Ring is a two part Claddagh Ring set. The main ring is Sterling Silver with a 10K yellow gold Claddagh symbol which is set with a clear Cubic Zirconia stone to the heart and 8 clear Cubic Zirconia stones on the shoulders. The second piece is a matching band in Sterling Silver and is set with five clear Cubic Zirconia stones.
The Claddagh is a well-known Irish symbol. It is a traditional Irish ring exchanged as a token of love and it symbolizes love, loyalty, and friendship.
The Claddagh is one of the most popular symbols in Irish jewelry. The Claddagh Ring dates to the 17th century and originated in the village of Claddagh in County Galway, Ireland. Legend has it that Richard Joyce, a Galway native, was captured and sold to slavery in North Africa. However, Joyce found himself slave to a Turkish Goldsmith, and from his master he learned and excelled at the craft.
Joyce was finally released after 14 years. However, the Goldsmith he was working for was so impressed by his work that he offered his daughters hand in marriage to him. He also offered half of his property to try and get him to stay. But Joyce refused the offer and returned to Galway, where his sweetheart awaited him. But while in captivity, he had made what we now know as the Claddagh Ring especially for her. For centuries the Claddagh Ring this was used as a wedding ring by the fisher folk of Claddagh village.
This Two Tone Raised Claddagh Ring is a beautiful combination ring set, assayed in Dublin Castle and is beautifully presented in its own box with a story card.
